600 years ago, Hwal was made into a Bulgusal, a monster said to have hunted him since birth. And on the same day the previous Bulgusal killed his family and stole his soul. Now Hwal is trying to find the reincarnation of the woman who caused him all this pain and is getting revenge. And his research leads him to Sang Un, a young woman who has been running from the monster all her life.
Korean drama Bulgusal: The Immortal Souls is a fantasy drama that doesn't focus too much on romance.
Rather, it was about the bonds between the characters and their small, strange family.
The short adventures faced by the main characters, who are mostly pursued by monsters, were quite interesting, but they were included only in the first part of the drama. So the story after that was more about figuring out what happened in the past to find a solution for the present.
Unfortunately, at this point the plot went in circles and nothing really happened. There were a few twists here and there, yes, but for most of the episode's length, the story was slow and boring.
Also, things got out of hand, with too many twists and turns regarding the past events and the nature of Bulgusal. And it was confusing to follow at some point. On top of that, the main villain tried to be hateful and sympathetic at the same time, which also complicated things.

The ending was unique and fortunately didn't follow a cliche, cheesy conclusion in the interest of romance. Which also proved that the drama wasn't initially about the love story.

1000 years ago Hwal and Sang Un were the only Bulgasals in the world and they were a couple who lived far away from humans until Sang Un found two orphans and she decided to leave Hwal and live with them until they grow up are.

These two were Shi Ho and Do Yoon and they lived with Sang Un and Hye Suk until the siblings witnessed Eul Tae kill his brother. The latter then tried to kill the witnesses as well, but Sang Un saved her, leading to her being accused of being the Bulgasal who claimed to have killed Eul Tae's brother to his father.
And when she is stabbed and the villagers are about to be killed, Hwal appears just before she passes out. When she gets to it, she discovers that everyone she cared about is dead and she kills herself while Hwal curses her that after killing them all again he will find her. After that, he and Eul Tae leave, and then the latter gets the black hole on his chest.
In modern times, Hwal regains his energy after drinking Ho Yeol's blood, which he offered to him before his death. And he confronts Oul Tae and defeats him by taking his blood. However, this causes Hwal to regain his monstrous self.
He then goes into the forest where Sang Un finds him. He tells her he has only one choice to protect everyone. And he stabs himself with a knife.
Sang Un for him in the morning, but finds the strength to call her sister, who rushes to the forest to get her. Sang Un shakes her hands and Shi Ho sees what happened to Hwal and Ho Yeol. However, she also discovers that her sister is injured. Shi Ho tries to help her, but Sang Un tells her that she finally did what she had to do and protected her.
After her sister's death, Shi Ho and Do Yoon stay at Hwal's house and raise Shi Ho's child. They grow up together and after many years Shi Ho finally finds a woman who looks like Sang Un and sends her a photo of the house with address.
Reincarnated Sang Un feels like she needs to go there, and she does. There she finds Hwal who wants to buy the house. The two don't seem to know each other, but Sang Un accidentally drops a pot, and Hwal, trying to save her, gets his hand cut, the same place his old scar was. That's when they regain some memories and Hwal asks her if they've met before.
The drama wraps it all up for everyone in the final episode. Yes, it's tragic, but it was just right for the overall mood of the story. However, the whole Bulgasal mythology was confusing and changed depending on the situation.
And while the cinematography and OST were amazing, at times the drama got boring and too long to reveal what had happened in the past.
